Info on Event

Akhil Reed Amar's newest title, Born Equal: Remaking America's Constitution, 1840-1920, explores the transformative amendments that redefined freedom, equality, and voting rights in the post-Civil War era. Amar, a Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University, is the author of 10 books on the U.S. Constitution. During his visit, Amar will discuss how President Abraham Lincoln and his allies "saved the Constitution in the 1860s and even managed to improve it in a time of fierce polarization, and how we might try to follow their lead today."

The event begins at 2 p.m. on September 13th in KCC's Binda Theater with introductions and Amar’s lecture, followed Q&A and a book signing, ending at 4 p.m. Attendees will receive a copy of Amar’s latest book.
