Instruction Services From Morris Library

Overview:

Morris Library offers several different ways to help your students develop Information Literacy, or the ability to know when information is needed and accurately locate and use that information.

Use the tabs above to learn about the different services we offer.

Liaison Librarians:

You can contact your Liaison Librarian with any questions you may have or to set up an instruction session.

We know your in-class time is valuable. That's why Morris' in-class instruction sessions are uniquely tailored to the needs of the instructor and course. Need your students to learn everything from source evaluation to creating an Annotated Bibliography? Great! We can cover that in about an hour. Only need to teach them the basics of searching in a Library system? Cool! We can cover that in 15 minutes.

Let us know what you need and we're happy to work with you to get your students the information they need to succeed!

Here are some of our most requested topics. You can combine any number of these or talk to your liaison if what you need isn't covered here.

Evaluating Information:

  • Basic source evaluation, determining whether or not a source is trustworthy
  • Searching by Domain Type (i.e. .edu, .gov, etc.)
  • Identifying and using Scholarly Sources
  • Levels of Evidence in Allied Health

Finding Sources:

  • Search Everything (the main Library search tool)
  • How to find and use discipline specific databases
  • How to use Google Scholar
  • Identifying which sources have full text available
  • How to request InterLibrary Loan/MeLCat materials
  • How to use items in the Library's digital collections

Using Sources

  • When should you use a source while writing
  • What plagiarism is and how to avoid it
  • How to setup a paper and/or cite in APA, MLA, or Chicago Style

At faculty request, a Librarian can be embedded directly in your Moodle course. This mainly serves to give students a direct way to contact a Librarian with any research questions they might have (and give students a chance to learn from each others questions). Additionally, Embedded Librarians can share resources with students in the Moodle course. If you would like that additional support, we'll work with you on what resources would be helpful and what points in the semester would be most timely for a reminder.

Contact your Library Liaison if you're interested in setting up an embedded librarian or have any questions about the process!

You'll find Research Guides for most of the subjects here at KCC. These Guides compile recommended resources and provide students (and staff) with a starting point for their research. If your instruction area doesn't have a Research Guide, or you have recommendations for how we can improve the Guide in your subject area (including pages designed specifically for your course) please contact your Library Liaison.

We have also compiled all the learning materials created by Morris Library (along with a few form other libraries) on the Learning Resources Guide. Feel free to share any of the materials listed there with your students.
