Brief Overview

Inserting Footnotes

Chicago Style uses footnotes for in-text citations.  Footnotes appear at the bottom of the page when the page contains a direct quote or paraphrase. 

Microsoft Word

When using Microsoft Word, select the "References" tab then click "Insert Footnote" 

 


Google Docs

When using Google Docs, select "Insert" then click "Footnote."

Basics of Chicago Style

New to using Chicago Style? Here are the basics:

  • Double-spaced Times New Roman 12 pt. font
  • Use footnotes when you reference a source to let your audience know where the information is from
    • (See Inserting Footnotes box below for more help)
  • List all sources used for the paper on a separate Bibliography page at the end of the paper
